WEEKLY REQUIRED WORK

These are time sensitive. You do not receive credit if you write them after the deadline each week.

First, there's a blog entry (about 250 words) which will have you respond to a hopefully thought-provoking question. Each week, you must do the blog entry with enough time left in the week to be able to enter into dialogue online with your classmates. Write, reply, write more, reply more, and then write and reply more.

Second, there's a reading. There’s no blog entry associated with this. Just read.

Third, there's a written response to the reading. Your reading and writing on the blog must be completed by the SATURDAY (by midnight) of the week in which the reading falls. This entry should be a long paragraph. YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESPOND TO OTHER STUDENTS' PART THREE EACH WEEK.

WEEK TWO BLOG ENTRY

For this week's blog entry, you need only do one thing: DESCRIBE THE SINGLE BEST BITE OF FOOD YOU HAVE EVER HAD.

For me, it would be a root beer braised ribs at a restaurant in NYC called WD-50. It is one of these pricey, ultra modern places. There were about nine plates, each one with only a bite or two. In your description, be sure to include sight, sound, smell, or anything else to help the reader feel the experience of that one brilliant bite of food.

  1. The best bite of food that I have ever had was a sandwich put together with homemade bread that my mom makes. It was actually the bread itself that made the sandwich so amazing. There is nothing at all like it. The inside of the bread is so soft and smooth. Bread purchased from the store just does not stand up to it. While the bread is still baking in the oven, it fills the entire house with its delicious scent. The scent to me smells fresh, warm, and gives me such a feeling of comfort. After the bread has been removed from the oven and has been allowed to cool for a moment, we all eagerly take a slice while it is still warm on the inside. It is especially great with butter smeared on it, but honestly, I feel it is best to take the first bite without anything on it so as to experience its full flavor and texture. The ingredients of the bread are so few and simple, yet when put together they taste so good!

    2. It was white bread, but she also made wheat bread.

    5. The sandwich you described seems so delicious. Homemade sandwiches are always the best. I make them whenever I feel like eating something simple and fresh. However, I enjoy them best when my mom makes them. I also think that the sandwich makes the bread. If you have great bread, the sandwich will just be that much better. Yum

  2. The best food that I have ever had, was from a Japanese restaurant called Takumis. Takumis is a teppanyaki restaurant located in Fresno. Their chicken teriyaki plate is the best I have ever tasted. First they serve salad and soup, and then they give vegetables, fried rice, and your choice of meat. I always order chicken teriyaki because it is my favorite. The chicken teriyaki is so juicy that when you bite it just falls apart in your mouth, and the sauce that they put on the chicken is so sweet. Aside from all the food that they give you, they give you a semi spicy sweet sauce that makes your food taste so much better. I am not sure what the spicy sweet sauce is called, but they mix teriyaki sauce and the spicy red sauce together. The spicy red sauce was thick like mustard, and then the teriyaki sauce was a thick brown, and you mix the two sauces together and you have a spicy sweet sauce. I put the sauce on everything and it gives all the food enough spice and sweet flavor that it makes your taste buds water. The atmosphere is very relaxing while you wait because you can talk comfortably with the person next to you. The worst part for me is waiting for my food because they cook the food right in front of you, and the smell of the food makes your mouth water. It is almost as if they are torturing me because the food is right in front of me, yet I cannot have it because it is not finished cooking. Takumis is so good that you could never get tired if eating, I eat to the point that I make myself sick because the food is so tasty.

There is a Japanese restaurant here in Bakersfield called Tokyo Garden that I have been meaning to go to. My friend recommended it. Do you know of any other Japanese restaurants in Bakersfield?

  3. The best bite of food I’ve had recently was a peanut butter sandwich I had after a rough start at work. I opted against heading to the cafeteria or a deli for my 20-minute lunch break so I slipped into the break room for a quiet break. I got to work and made my peanut butter sandwich - with Skippy’s and sliced bread from Giuliano’s Bakery.
The bread was provided by my workplace so it was the first time I’d ever tried it. I cut the sandwich in half and took a bite, not caring to take a seat as I tasted something heavenly. Maybe it was simply sheer hunger - as I had skipped breakfast earlier that day - or maybe it was simply that good.
I had never been partial towards sliced bread, or any bread for that matter, but for this particular one, I was pretty much a goner. As I took each bite, I caught myself sighing and moaning as it practically melted in my mouth. I finished the first slice pretty quickly, likely due to hunger. As I reached for the second slice, I noted how the supple pores of the bread bounced back from my fingers, unlike other flaky breads I’d tried.
I bit into the second slice, biting right into the portion with the most peanut butter. It was a generic brand, nothing organic or sugar-free, but this was other-worldly. Maybe this was the heavenly part of the sandwich but it quickly transported me back into my childhood as images of a younger me in pigtails flashed into my head. I realized that the last time I had a peanut butter sandwich, I was nine. Maybe it was just hunger but I like to think that the sandwich was memorable because of the memories attached to it.

  4. I had recently never tried Hungry Hunter's off of Rosedale across from Costco. I love Costco, so every time that I would do my shopping I would pass by and always see how busy that restaurant was. Due to our hectic work schedules, in addition my school schedule, my boyfriend and I do not get to go on very many date nights.
Well, on this particular day, I had done my regular shopping at Costco and again saw Hungry Hunter's with a line out with restaurant, people waiting for seating I assume. My boyfriend and I had planned "date night" (lame I know), I suggested we try them out. The food was absolutely phenomenal! I had the smoke salmon with a steamed vegetables and a mediterranean pilaf paired with a white wine our waitress suggested.

Oh, my let me tell you about this smoked salmon it was delicious, it had that oaky firewood taste to it with hint of lemon that was just right, it was so soft that it just broke apart and melted in my mouth that first bite had me hooked! The vegetable medley had broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower, all very well done and crisp. The mediterranean pilaf was just the perfect side to the salmon the flavor that they together created complimented each other just like the right pair of black heels to a dress. Till this day I still cannot get over the white wine, every sip it just seemed to get better and the taste that the wine left in my mouth with next bite of my food just seemed like the wine was specially crafted to go with the salmon. The wine was mellow and smooth such a soft wine taste, it was just incredible. It helps too, that I am not a big fine of red wine because of the strong alcohol taste to it. Everything just complimented each other and the taste it created the melting lemon taste that salmon let out, the crisp vegetables, and the perfect seasoned pilaf with the smooth taste of the wine just created an explosion of flavor and it was all very mesmerizing. I literally felt that I was at a hidden gem of a restaurant off the coast somewhere, all I needed was a bathing suit and tanning lotion, because it felt like I was at a beach with all these combinations of flavor. Mind you, that this was only my meal. I cannot speak for my boyfriend, but he seemed to be just as intoxicated with flavor from his meal, we hardly even spoke with both were just mesmerized from how amazing the food was. Once we finished, the waitress suggested dessert, I do not have much of a sweet tooth. My boyfriend on the other-hand ordered this pretty big sized chocolate cake with loads of melting fudge and vanilla ice cream crumbled nuts just drizzled on top. As I said, I do not have much of sweet tooth, but I joined in. It just looked so tempting with the vanilla ice cream draped over the chocolate cake and to my surprise it was not very sweet it was perfect. I was so full, I surprised myself with the addition of the cake to top it off. It was just amazing food!
We definitely plan on returning and definitely recommend to try it if you have not already!

  5. The best meal that I have tasted was at my first dining at Applebee’s restaurant in Hanford, California. I know many are thinking, what is so special about Applebee’s? My response would be that I have been to other Applebee’s in other locations but the high quality of meat selections are like no others in the central valley. My hypotheses is that The Quality is directly contributed to the close proximity and accessibility to agricultural goods.
When I entered into the restaurant I was greeted by a host and guided to a booth.
I was asked if I would like a braille menu which I kindly declined and began to describe to the waiter the type of meal I desired. I waited patiently, anticipating a meal that would satisfy my current human craving for tender meat, starch and fresh vegetables.
Approximately forty minutes later, I could smell an enticing aroma headed towards my booth. Once the plate was served, my sense of smell surrendered to the pleasant scent. I sat a few minutes than proceeded to cut into the premium, well prepared steak and took a bite. The taste was more marvelous that the smell! Next, I began to eat the salad consisting of Crisp lettuce, ripe tomatoes and cucumbers slices, shredded cheddar cheese, crunchy croutons and creamy ranch dressing.
Lastly, I enjoyed hot seasoned French potatoes just to tease the child within. A pure delight.
In conclusion, my favor quote from the read is: “The chef certainly has a talent for creating beautiful compositions, marshalling ingredients into geometric precision.”

    1. Well, I can't answer the specifics as to why but I once read that taste and smell are closely linked to memory. Strangely, a lot of my memories with my mother are linked to a certain smell. I can't pinpoint what it is but as a child, I can remember feeling a great deal of comfort and security whenever she did my hair. My siblings and I tried to pinpoint it but the closest we've gotten to is a combination of clean laundry and a shopping meal. What about you? What kind of childhood memories do foods or smells trigger for you?

  8. The best bite of food that I ever had is my grandmother's gorditas. My grandmother makes gorditas once in a blue moon, so when I heard she was making gorditas, I was at her house faster than a jack rabbit. Not only was I the only one there, but my whole family was there waiting in line to eat my grandmother's gorditas. As I am waiting in line, I can smell the beans cooking in the pot and I can see the smiles on my cousins' faces as they are making their gordita. As my sister finally finishes eating, I am next to make my gordita. You all might wonder what is a gordita? A gordita is a Hispanic dish and it contains: a fried homemade tortilla that acts as a base, beans, shredded meat, shredded lettuce, cheese, and sour cream. You can choose what to put on your gordita, but I am a plain person, so I eat a gordita with only beans, meat, and cheese. When you bite into this delicious meal, it feels as if you're in heaven. You can smell the aroma of homemade tortilla and with just the right condiments, everything blends together.

  9. Asking me what my favorite food is one of the hardest questions I can be asked but to find a specific meal is even harder. I have so many fond memories of my mothers cooking because she's the best cook I know. The one meal I remembered that was absolutely incredible was a lunch date I shared with my Mom when we visited Avila Beach one Monday last summer. The restaurant is called F.McLintocks Saloon and Dining House. It is a small steak restaurant that is well know for its food. More often than not I am not impressed by food that is served at restaurants because it seems to lack flavor such as garlic, oregano, or some flavorful spices which my mother usually always cooks with. My family uses garlic and onions in about everything we cook so usually at home is my favorite place to eat. On this beautiful day in Paso Robles my mother suggested this restaurant because of a gift certificate she received at her wedding two years prior that her and her husband never used and offered to share it with me. When we first walked into F.McLintocks we were the only customers in the place so I assumed that they had just opened. The hostess allowed us to sit wherever we wanted so we picked a table with some bar-stools in the corner. As we scanned the menu and order our drinks I was a little surprised by the prices. I thought "$25 for a steak? Yikes!". By the time my mom and I were ready to order we decided to order a Chopped BBQ Salad , garlic mashers, and a Filet Mignon wrapped in bacon. As we waited in anticipation we looked around at the restaurant that was decorated in old western memorabilia such as old saddles and bridles, barbed wire, and western paintings. the food started coming out one by one starting with the salad and ending with the steak. The salad was very tasty filled with pulled chicken, avocados, beans, tomatoes, and onions. The garlic mashers were basic mash potatoes with some garlic seasoning and cheese mixed in which was something I grew up having a home. Once we started to cut out first but from this perfectly looking Filet Mignon with our mouths watering from the very smell emitting from this steak. as we took out first bit I was shocked by the amazing flavor that came from this piece of meat. We finished the steak off in a matter of minutes leaving us wanting more. I can not wait to visit this restaurant again because I am making plans with my boyfriend this minute to plan a trip centering our plans at stopping at F.McLintocks Saloon and Dining House.

  11. The best food I have ever had are my mom’s enchiladas. My mom takes a tortilla and dips in into salsa, making sure to cover it all. She puts it into the bubbling oil and fries it. To me, the tortillas make all the difference. She uses tortillas that are made without preservatives. She puts the tortilla on the plate and adds roasted chicken and boiled potatoes that she seasoned with salt, pepper, and butter. She puts shredded Monterrey jack cheese on top of the chicken and potatoes. Then she rolls up the enchilada. The warmth from the tortilla, chicken, and potatoes melts the cheese. On top of the enchilada she adds queso fresco, which is cool and doesn’t really melt. On top of that she places thin slices of avocado in a line, from one side of the enchilada to the other. On top of that, she adds a spoonful or two of Mexican sour cream. She garnishes the enchilada with finely sliced cabbage. The enchiladas look vibrant form the array of colors. There is the orange/red from the salsa on the tortilla, the white from the sour cream, and different shades of green from the cabbage and avocado. You can hear the crunch when you bite the cabbage and the tortilla and then you get a creamy and cool layer from the cheese, sour cream, and avocado on top of the enchilada. The texture is creamy and soft inside the enchilada from the cheese, chicken, and potatoes. When you take a bite, it is amazing. You are experiencing different textures, temperatures, and flavors all at once and they all go together so perfectly.

    1. My mom makes enchiladas almost the same way but with other different ingredients. My mouth watered so much from reading this that I had to catch myself from drooling. The part I visualize the most is the melted cheese that gets really stringy and refuses to separate from the rest of the enchiladas. Mom's cooking is the best cooking.

    2. I love enchiladas! My mom almost makes hers just like your mothers, but she just uses the typical store made tortillas. My fiancé, on the other hand, makes them with chicken instead of cheese. If I had to choose which is better, I would pick the enchiladas with chicken as far as taste goes. At the end of the day, I will eat any kind of enchilada.

    3. Those enchiladas sound amazing, Graciela! There can never be too much cheese or meat! Enchiladas and tamales are definitely a few of my favorite Mexican foods, but I always end up getting some from my best friend's place since her mom always gives her too much food.

    5. Mike, I love any kind of enchilada as well. We do buy our tortillas from a store. But those stores are only located in Fresno, Santa Ana, and Santa Maria. My family and I usually drive to the Fresno or Santa Ana location. We buy around 15 packages and then freeze them. I know that is a lot of trouble to go through just for tortillas, but my family has eaten those tortillas for decades. If we use any other brand of tortillas, our meal just isn't the same.

  12. The single best bite of food I have ever had was a piece Chicago style deep dish pizza. Unfortunately this event didn’t happen in Chicago but in Bakersfield. It happened about three years at a pizza restaurant called Cubbies that serves in my opinion the best pizza in Bakersfield. At the time I have only heard of the style of pizza, I have not had the privilege of tasting it so I was skeptical as to how enticing it was going to be. Upon being served the pizza, my eyes gazed onto the steamy marinara filled pizza with wonder. It was a sight that would leave the stomach satisfied and full however, the pizza has yet to touch the entrails of your stomach. I took a bite of the pizza and it was the most outstanding euphoria of flavor. The combination of the melted cheese, pepperoni, crunchy bread crust, and thick layer of chunky tomato sauce was mouthwatering. It resembled an extremely wide bread bowl filled with an impermeable pool of tomato sauce. I took one bite, two bites, three bites, and eventually I was on my fourth slice of pizza. I lost track at the amount of deliciousness I engorged myself with that I was already halfway through the pizza. Although it was not my proudest moment in my life, I knew that that day I had accomplished something meaningful. What I had accomplished that day was discovering the single best bite of food I have ever had.

  13. The best bite of food I ever had was at this pizza place in San Mateo. I am not too sure what the place was called, but I do know they have closed down. The reason for being in that area was because a couple of family members and I had tickets to watch the San Francisco 49ers play against the New York Giants. Since 2008, we have made it an annual tradition to attend a 49ers game, but this was the first time we actually decided to tour that area of California. Somehow we ended up in downtown San Mateo, and it was time to eat. We looked all over the place for a restaurant to eat at until we found this pizza place (now that I remember, it was called Golden Boy Pizza). At first glance it did not seem very appetizing, but we were starving and decided to dine there. The pizza was in small square slices, so that was pretty interesting to see. Not only that, but you could see the sizzling perfection of the cheese and pepperoni. Upon receiving my order, it was the best smelling pizza i have ever smelled! I did not hesitate to bite into it even though it was hot. The taste was amazing! It truly was the best pizza I ever had. The pizza had the perfect amount of pepperoni, cheese, and tomato. My family also said the same thing about the food. That bite of food was definitely the second best thing I experienced that weekend (first was watching the 49ers lose)!

  14. The single best bite of food I have ever had was a Gyro. The first time I tried a Gyro was in a stand outside of a store in Heidelberg, Germany. However, nothing compares to a Gyro made from where it was originated from, Greece. A Gyro is a dish of meat; usually lamb, spinning vertically on an electrical broiler and shredded, served in pita bread with onions, tomatoes, lettuce, and tzatziki sauce. The first time I laid eyes on a Gyro, my eyes grew and my mouth watered at the delicious smell of fresh roasted lamb slowly cooking on the broiler. Hearing the sizzling noise of the lamb being cooked as well as being shredded off the electrical broiler was quite exciting. I was so anxious to take the first bite of that Gyro that I remember burning my tongue from how hot the shredded lamb was. Taking the first bite of all the ingredients combined was the most pleasurable experience. The crunchiness of the lettuce and onions, the taste of the roasted seasoned lamb covered in tzatziki sauce, balanced with the pita bread all placed together like a sandwich was not only the best experience because of the taste, but because I was able to try it in Greece. Every day for a week in Greece, I visited a Gyro stand and restaurant I was able to come across just to not let go of the enticing flavors before my vacation ended. Before I took another bite I admired how well put together the Gyro sandwich was. The vibrant colors of the green lettuce, the crispy brown lamb, the white tzatziki sauce with green minced cucumbers placed inside a golden brown pita bread was so beautiful it was like a delicious piece of art.

    1. Wow what an experience! I felt like I was there with you. How awesome that you were in Greece too. I've never been out of the country so it's exciting to hear other people's stories about the places they visited. I've never heard of Gyro before and now I want to try it. You made it sound like it was the best thing ever. This is something that will have to go on my bucket list for sure.

    2. gyro is good even if it is only so so. The ones you describe sound delicious.
Marina, yes, leave the country now. Even just for the food; eating in other countries just makes everything taste better. I think it is because you know you are making memories, so the brain is all fired up and in tandem with the taste buds.

    3. Marina Kennelty, thank you. I recommend that everyone leave the country. Europe is a really interesting place to visit, so much history and so much food to try. The cultures there are quite different and unique. Just something I believe everyone should experience atleast once in their lives. But yes the Gyro is amazing!

Dr.Brett Schmoll, Thank you. that might be the reason as to why it is so good. I believe food taste so much better made in their hometowns.

    4. I had a gyro once. It was at the Golden Bull way out on Rosedale Hwy and Hwy 33, I think. My husband used to work out there and he took me once, but I don't drive out that way at all. It was super yummy! I love how tender the mean is and the sauce they put on it is tangy and sweet.

  15. This week’s blog is asking a six month pregnant woman what her favorite food is. This is tough to answer and it took me a long time to think of the perfect response. The best bite of food I’ve ever had and continue to enjoy is my mom’s chilaquiles. I’m biased and I will say that my mother’s cooking is the absolute best. For many years I’ve been awaken from my sleep on a Sunday morning to the wonderful smell coming from the kitchen. On my lucky Sunday mornings my mom is preparing chilaquiles for brunch. She makes her own spicy red salsa from scratch. She adds this homemade salsa to the tortillas she has frying in the pan. That simple, it’s just fried cut up tortilla pieces with salsa. You might think that it’s silly of me to say this is the best food ever, but it is. I add crunchy lettuce, pieces of onion, fresh cheese, sour cream, and some more salsa on top. The different flavors and temperatures of this simple meal makes my mouth water by the simple thought of it. I also think that besides the great flavor the chilaquiles bring to my taste buds, I also connect the food to great memories I’ve shared with my mother on Sunday mornings. My mother’s chilaquiles is one meal that I will never skip seconds in one sitting. It’s a must to eat until there is no more because I never know when I’ll have the pleasure of eating them again.

    1. I do not think it is silly at all. I love homemade chilaquiles as well. I love it when my grandmother makes them in the morning for breakfast. I have never had them with lettuce, onion, cheese and sour cream before though. I must try it like that the next time my grandmother makes it. I usually have mine with an egg on the side but the way you described how you eat it made my mouth water up. I can't wait for the next time my grandma makes them.

  16. It took me awhile to decide what the best bite I have had was, but, I finally figured it out. The best bite of food I have had is a burrito from King Taco. King Taco is a Mexican food restaurant in the Los Angeles area. All their food there is delicious but their burrito is the best. Whenever I am in the area and I go to King Taco I always get a combination burrito. The combination burrito has Mexican rice, whole pinto beans, a meat of your choice, freshly chopped onions and cilantro with their famous salsa all wrapped in a warm soft flour tortilla. The meat I get is carne Asada because the meat is so citrusy and soft to chew. The flavor of the meat is always the same. It never has a different taste and never has a different texture. Their meat has a perfect taste of lime and lemon, it isn’t too much but it isn’t too little either. Most other places I’ve been to I need a lemon on the side to put more lemon juice to it but not for this one. The burrito has the perfect amount of rice, beans and meat throughout the whole burrito. Each bite you take from this burrito will have all three ingredients. The flour tortilla it is wrapped in is so soft that it feels like it melts in your mouth. I love how the burrito is never burning hot to where you can’t eat it but it is warm enough to enjoy right away when it is in your hands. Once you have the burrito in your hands and you smell the combination of the meat, rice and beans you will want to dig right in. It is so filling too. The burrito is the perfect size to fill you up. Whenever any of you are in the Los Angeles area look up King Taco and try go. It is seriously delicious!

  17. The best single bite that I have ever tasted would have to be something that I would describe as simply prepared to perfection. Its nothing fancy—many might say—but it is the most mouth-watering food ever created. That is right, you all may know it as pizza, but I call it heaven to my taste buds. Not just any random pizza, rather, it is perfectly cooked pizza from Dominos. To be much more specific, the one I speak of has extra cheese, extra tomato sauce, extra Italian sausage, and with the regular amount of peperoni. Many may agree with me on this one, because who doesn’t like pizza, right? Who isn’t going to enjoy a mouth-watering piece of perfection? Its garlic, thick crunchy crust, with the cheesy top, and delicious toppings brings out the most amazing pizza I have ever tastes. Just thinking about the many delicious flavors that this pizza has makes my mouth water for it. I know this piece of deliciousness is not something one might call fancy food, but like I always say, taste is much better that eating something fancy that hardly satisfies a person’s taste buds. I would sincerely recommend this pizza to anyone who has not tried it. Overall, any pizza is delicious to me, since I love pizza, but Dominos pizza takes the crown.

  18. Seeing as how I am a very indecisive person, choosing the single best bite of food that I have ever had can be very difficult because there are many that I could write about. With that said, I will write about a very recent experience at a restaurant in Santa Monica called Bru’s Wiffle. This restaurant is a waffle house and only serves breakfast and lunch but that doesn’t mean that their menu is small by any means. I ordered a waffle called “The King” and it was a waffle topped with peanut butter, bananas, and of course bacon. I received my plate and topped the waffle with syrup. The first bite I made sure to get all flavors onto my fork. The waffle made for a great base, the banana and syrup both gave the correct amount of sweetness, and combined with the saltiness of the bacon, this first bite was heaven. The waffle was toasted to a perfect golden brown color, the bananas were perfectly sweet and firm, the syrup had the right amount of maple flavoring, and the bacon was crisped to perfection. After this first bite the waffle didn’t stand a chance, and only lived for about 5 minutes before I consumed the entire waffle. It was honestly one of the best meals that I have ever had. Their menu has extensive ways in which they top their waffles with unconventional toppings but somehow end up being very tasty.

  20. The best bite of food that I have ever had would have to be my mom’s turkey sandwich. She only makes them after Thanksgiving because that’s when we have all the extra turkey. She makes it with 3 slices of bread, two on the outside and then one soaked with gravy in the middle! It is the best thing I have probably ever eaten. The gravy soaked bread in the middle is what makes this the best sandwich ever. I also like that our house still smells like all the food that was made the day before and all my family is in town to enjoy it with us. I am not a huge fan of turkey, but the way my mom makes it is amazing. I think most food is better the next day, in my opinion. In my family it is like a race to see who can get the sandwich first the next day, since the first one will have the most turkey and the most gravy. I think this is a meal that my entire family enjoys, which is hard to come by. We are a family of 6 and many of us are very picky eaters. I believe that food is made better by the company that you share it with. My family is only together 2 times a year and Thanksgiving is one of them. My mom has made these sandwiches ever since I can remember so it brings up a lot of fond memories for me. This will be a dish that I continue to serve to my kids in the future.

  21. The best bite of food I have had was at Gordon Ramsay's restaurant Burgr. The burger was the most flavor-able and juiciest meat I have ever tasted. It had melted English sharp cheddar cheese, a fried egg, and duck breast bacon in it. It was the most unbelievable experience as far as food goes. It was not your typical cheese burger with french fries. This had groumet written all over it. It was literally like being in Hell's kitchen. The restaurant was surrounded by a glass wall that had fire running through it. It was also a very classy restaurant for being in the Planet Hollywood Casino. The ambiance was great. It was very open and the servers were very friendly. It took away from being on the Las Vegas Strip and let you engulf yourself in Gordon Ramsay's kitchen. I'm probably being cheesy as I describe it, but I highly recommend it and I would love to go back again soon. It was pricey, but it was definitely worth every penny. We also had ordered jalapeño poppers that were brought out on a long plate with each one with it's own cup of dipping sauce. One trick to that was that they added a fiery one to the row of six. You had to take your chances in picking them. It was an awesome experience and I wish we lived closer to Las Vegas.

  22. I’m not going to lie; I love food. I like trying food. I like smelling food. I am the kind of person who will eat off the wrapper after I am done. I have traveled to many places and it is a tradition for me to eat something from every place I go. Therefore, it is difficult for me to choose what the single best bite of food I have ever tasted was. However, I will attempt to do so. If I had to choose one thing to say was so delicious that I would recommend it to others, it would have to be Korean BBQ and roasted duck from a random Korean restaurant I visited in Seoul. I wish I knew the name of the restaurant but I barely know any Korean. I am pretty sure it was called Korean BBQ but that could have just been a sign. We were a large group of 12 and I think the total bill was equal to 1800$ American dollars. It was worth every Won. We sat on the floor around a large long table that was full of various types of foods. In the middle between sections of four people, there was a small grill built into the table. The waitress would bring us meats that had been dipped in a type of BBQ sauce and we would have to cook it on the table grill. By doing it this way, every person was allowed to cook their meat to their desired taste. Since it got really hot in the room, there were women all around the room with small paper fans cooling us off. Luckily, each room was sectioned from the others so we had our own privacy. It was definitely a cultural experience and one of the best foods I've ever had.

  23. The single absolute, hands-down best bite of food I’ve ever had is my husband’s smoked tri-tip! I bought my husband a Kamado grill last year and he has perfected his smoked tri-tip to the point that it is requested any time anyone comes to visit, not to mention pretty much every other weekend for me. I say every other weekend because his smoked ribs, prime rib and brisket are also to-die-for, but I’m going to focus on the tri-tip.

First, he buys U.S.D.A. prime cut meat from Costco. If you ask me, this makes a huge difference. He trims off the excess fat and adds his “secret” herbs and spices. If I had to guess, it’s probably Pappy’s or a mixture of garlic, dried parsley and seasoning salt. He rubs the meat down and lets it sit to almost room temperature. He fires up his grill with oak wood chunks and lump charcoal. This is what gives it that hickory-smoked flavor. After he lays the big chunk of beef on the grill and smokes it for about an hour. When he pulls it off the grill, I follow the scent of the sweet, smoky beef into the kitchen because I know he will be slicing it up! He gets about 3 slices in and I always “test” my favorite part: the little end piece. It’s crunchy, salty, juicy and full of flavor. This is the best taste of food ever!

I love eating tri-tip sandwiches with some mustard and mayonnaise, I can't really eat it on it's own, but I'm sure it's delicious either way. I think the oak wood makes a huge difference. I've tasted smoked tri-tip from and electric smoker and I hated the taste of it.

  24. The single best bite of food I have ever had would be spicy fried calamari from Lams. The restaurant is located on the east side of town near Bakersfield College. I live on the southwest so I don’t go often but when I do its worth the drive. I have tried calamari from other restaurant in town and nothing compares to how delicious the fried calamari taste from there. The calamari is not fried in rings it’s fried in little bite size pieces and this makes it really easy to eat. Occasionally they will throw in some pieces of tentacles but it is mostly the body that they use. They are perfectly fried to a golden color with spicy sauce on top. The sauce is made at the restaurant and it is a red color with pepper seeds in it. The sauce is not too spicy but still gives it a kick that makes my mouth burn. When calamari is cooked for too long it becomes very tough and rubbery but that is not the case at Lams. The pieces are not chewy or rubbery and taste as if I am eating shrimp. The pieces are fried in just the right amount of time. The pieces are coated with flour and then fried; the batter has just the right amount of salt and other spices that make it taste so delicious. They also give you lemon that you can garnish on top to give it a different taste, but I prefer the calamari without the lemon.

  25. It’s so hard to think of the single best bite of food I have ever had because I love food in general. I can never choose just one favorite food dish. I always end up naming a list when I’m asking what my favorite food is. The best bite of food I have ever had, I would have to say was when I went to Black Angus for the first time. It was a few months back when I first went because my coworker had told me her boyfriend took her there for dinner and it was absolutely delicious. She told me I had to try it and that the smashed potatoes were a must. When I finally went one weekend, I ordered the grilled salmon with the smashed potatoes as a side. As soon as the waitress brought me my food, the food smelled divine. You could smell the hint of the salmon and seasoning they used on it, but when I saw the smashed potatoes I wanted to dig in! You could see the steam coming from them. I have to admit I love potatoes in any form, so it might just be me but I took one bite of them and they were amazing! I savored every single bite I had after that first one. They were nice and chunky not to smooth. I’ll never forget those smashed potatoes because they are by far the best I have tasted from any restaurant I have tried.

  26. The single best bite for me would have to be my families pork and red chile tamales. While we are making them, my mouth already starts to get watery. The smell of the maza mix looks so good that I sometimes feel like just eating it like that. I also feel like just dipping my finger into the red chile, but I have to hold in my temptation. While the tamales are cooking, the smell of them fills up the whole house. Unwrapping the tamale from the leaf and feeling the steam makes me want to eat more and more. I like to eat my tamales with ketchup. Some people may think it's weird, but it's actually really delicious! What I like the most about tamales is that the next day I like having them fried in the pan. Ugh, just talking about this makes me want some right now! It's a hassle making the tamales, especially because we have to make so many since we are a big family, but they are worth every single bite at the end.

  27. Last summer I took a trip to New York City with friends I met at a camp I worked with, and the first thing we did when we got to the city was look for a place to eat! We were so over the camp food and wanted to try something with Flavor! And not have to add salt to it. So we took a stroll down the Hudson River, and we all agreed that we wee in the mood for Chinese food. I know what you're thinking why didn’t we just go to China Town, well that’s another story that didn’t end very well! We continued walking and finally stumbled on a small Chinese restaurant that was over looking the Hudson River. The restaurant had glass windows that showed the Hudson River and on the other side you could see the yacht club. Needless to say that this dinner was going to be a little over budget for us, but we couldn’t resist the smell and view I’m pretty sure we paid for the view. So I ordered White rice with mandarin chicken, and beef and a glass of Red Wine. The restaurant itself was very opened and welcoming with the sunset beaming in through the window. The kitchen was located toward the back of the restaurant but had a window that allowed us to see the chefs cook and prepare the food. We walked in just in time to miss the rush of people the where waiting to be seated. The food finally arrived and looked absolutely amazing the presentation of the chicken was done with the chicken in the middle of the plate and lightly steamed mandarins around the plate, and some sesame seeds lightly added to the top. The beef also had a great presentation it sat on a plate of white rice and had green beans on top of it with sesame seeds as well. The first bite I took was of the mandarin chicken and I grabbed a mandarin some white rice and the amount of flavor that one bite had was enough to send me over the edge of my seat! The mandarin brought out the flavor in the chicken so much it was astounding, and then the glass of red wine I had was the perfect amount of sweetness that it did not take away from the food. I would go back to this place if I can find it again, I never got the name, but I will go back and have the same dish again!

  28. The best bite I have ever had was my Dad’s pulled pork sandwiches. Oh just thinking about the pulled pork makes me hungry all over again. The anticipation of the pulled pork sandwiches built up throughout the whole day adding more hunger after every hour that we had to wait for meat to BBQ perfectly.
First, the buns were toasted over the grill with a coat of butter making them a perfect crunch to each bite. Then, we added coleslaw, not just any KFC coleslaw but deliciously creamy and cold as it can get for a taste that is a constant crave at every bite. Up next, the pulled pork stacked on top of the coleslaw quickly mixing the warm and cold textures together. The pulled pork was so moist and tender coated with a rich homemade BBQ sauce that was sweet and tangy. Lastly, I stacked the second bread and I took my first bite! The warm crunchy bread was the first texture felt, but then an incredibly juicy hot and cold sensation is felt accompanied by the mix of coleslaw and BBQ flavors roaming across your mouth making me savor each bite! The meat was amazingly tender and moist that all the juices were dripping off the sandwich. I ate two of those babies!

  31. It is hard for me to pick the best bite I have ever had because I am in love with food in general, but if I had to pick something, it would be the bacon avocado sourdough burger from Mimi’s Café. I love trying different kinds of burgers but I am always disappointed because they do not meet my expectations. My absolute favorite burger, before trying the one from Mimi’s Café, was In-n-Out’s double double burger. When I first saw the bacon avocado sourdough burger, it was different than burgers I was used to seeing. It was cut down the middle with hand cut French fries on the side. It is served on grilled garlic-Parmesan sourdough bread with avocado, crispy bacon, lettuce, red onions, fresh tomatoes, Swiss cheese, and topped with thousand island spread. The bread on that burger is amazing. The first bite I had sent a million different bursting flavors in my mouth. I don’t order it at work often but when I do, the first bite is still amazing. I usually dip it in ranch because I love ranch. It is not too big since they cut it in half, so it is easy to bite. It is one of our best selling burgers on the menu. Many guests come in just for this burger. I have not found a burger to top that one or the double double at In-n-Out. It is an amazing burger and I will continue to try burgers and compare them to my favorite two. Not a lot of people know about Mimi’s Café and it is often confused with Marie Callender’s, since they are so close to each other. If I could eat this every day, I would. I recommend you all to try the burger.

    1. Hello Cristina,
I have never ate at Mimi's Café before so I would definitely try it one of these days. The sourdough burger sounds really appetizing. One of the best burgers I ever had by far was at Eureka. It was called the Cowboy burger it was quite pricy however it was a good choice. Another great burger that I have had before was the Leo's burger at Leo's on Ming. I would recommend both of these amazing burgers to you if you are looking to taste new burgers in town.

    2. Hello Jacqueline,
I definitely recommend it because I love both bacon and avocado and this burger has both! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
I am going to have to give Eureka a try. I'm willing to pay a pretty penny for a good burger! I have heard about Leo's but have never gotten around to try it. Thank you for the recommendations.

  32. The single best bite of food I have ever had was in January when I visited Las Vegas. It was one of my good friends 22nd birthday so we all went to Vegas and celebrated. We had dinner in an Italian restaurant named Buca di Beppo. Buca di Beppo is located inside the Excalibur hotel and casino. This Italian restaurant serves family-style authentic Italian dishes this means that they serve huge portions of Italian food. The atmosphere of this restaurant was fun and festive. Since we were a big party of ten we were seated in a big table in the center of the restaurant. The restaurant had a lot of colorful paintings and pictures of Italian culture. The server was very polite and provided us with information about their dishes and made us aware that the portions were family size. We ordered four large specialty pastas. One of the pastas we ordered was the Spicy Chicken Rigatoni. This pasta consisted of tender breast sautéed with garlic and red pepper, tossed with peas, a spicy Rosa sauce and imported Italian rigatoni pasta. The second pasta we ordered was called Fettucine Supremo. This pasta contained tendered chicken breast, broccoli, sweet red bell peppers and imported Italian egg fettuccine tossed in creamy Alfredo sauce. The third pasta was Shrimp Fra Diavolo sautéed garlic shrimp and crushed red pepper with penne in spicy Rosa sauce. Last but not least I ordered the large lasagna. The lasagna had towering layers of lasagna noodles stuffed with a savory combination of ricotta, mozzarella, provolone and Parmesan cheeses with plenty of chunky homemade meat sauce. When all of the dishes were brought out to us they all smelled delicious. The table had a round section in the middle that would turn allowing everyone to dig in. The first dish in front of me was the lasagna. I cut the lasagna and as I brought it close to my plate the cheese stretched with it. When I had the first bite it was the most amazing lasagna I had ever tasted. It was full of flavor, very cheesy, and the meat sauce complimented it very well. I was really looking forward to finishing it and grabbing a second piece. However the circle in the table turned and I saw the amazing lasagna turn to the other side of the table. I was very disappointed. Nonetheless I had the opportunity to try the other pastas that were also very good rotating around the table.

    1. I have always wanted to try Buca di Beppo. Lasagna is one of my favorite Italian meals so I will definitely have to go and try it from there. That's a really cool setup for that restaurant so you can try everything that is at the table without having to reach across everyone's plate. Now you have made me very hungry!

  34. Hi everyone I'm so sorry this is so late but I originally tried to post it the other day and I had thought it had gone through but when I checked today to read the comments and reply to them I noticed it wasn't on here. If I had to describe the single best bite I have ever had it would be my first bite of Chicago deep dish pizza. You see pizza is my absolute favorite food, so when I visited Chicago for the first time a few years ago I was extremely excited to try their famous pizza. Chicago Deep Dish Pizza, in case anyone does not know, is a type of pizza that is made in a slightly different order than the pizza we know here in California. Chicago pizza is made with the sauce and cheese reversed. It's slightly odd and messy but so unbelievably yummy. The first bite I ever had of Chicago Pizza had me begging my family to let me have the pizza again and again. I must of convinced my family to get Chicago pizza about three times on our trip, and that is saying something since I am the only one who loves pizza in my family. The bite was so delicious and new to my taste buds that I just felt myself falling in love with the unusual pizza. If any of you get the chance to visit Chicago and try their pizza please do!! You will not regret it!
